Now in their fifth decade together, the Yellowjackets show no signs of slowing down — quite the opposite. Released on February 21, 2025, their latest album Fasten Up is the 27th of their career and their seventh on Mack Avenue Records. The title says everything about the quartet's ethos: hold on tight, buckle up, the pedal is to the floor.

Ever since their self-titled debut in 1981, at the height of the fusion era, the band has blurred the lines without ever boxing itself into a single style or moment in time. Chamber music, R&B, gospel, funk and hard-hitting jazz melt into an instantly recognizable sound, driven by a single pursuit: self-discovery.

The line-up brings together founding pianist Russell Ferrante, drummer Will Kennedy, saxophonist Bob Mintzer (who joined in 1990) and Australian bassist Dane Alderson. On Fasten Up, their rich history stays in the rear-view mirror as they accelerate toward the future, true to the shared joy of discovering music together.
